House (Hausu - 1977) - Free Film Screening
The first season of the North Atlanta Cinema Club is kicking off on Oct. 23rd with a FREE screening of the 1977 Japanese gonzo comedy/horror classic House (Hausu). Taking place inside The Block Theater at You42 Studios, the evening will feature a special themed menu created for the film, with dishes by celebrity chef Katsuji Tanabe.
About The Film
Nobuhiko Obayashi’s 1977 debut feature House (Hausu) is one of the most delirious, inventive, and unforgettable films to emerge from Japanese cinema. Part horror movie, part surrealist fever dream, and part psychedelic pop-art explosion, House follows a group of schoolgirls who travel to a remote country house—only to find that the house itself has other plans for them.
With its wildly experimental editing, hand-painted effects, animation, optical tricks, bizarre humor, and unforgettable imagery, House turns the familiar haunted-house story into something entirely its own. Equal parts playful and disturbing, the film constantly shifts between the innocent, the grotesque, and the absurd.
Decades after its release, House remains a singular cinematic experience: a film that seems less interested in following the rules of horror than in gleefully destroying them.
Content Warning
House (1977) contains surreal and graphic horror imagery, including depictions of violence, blood and gore, bodily harm, death, supernatural attacks, and frightening or grotesque imagery. Viewer discretion is advised.
Join us for a special screening of Nobuhiko Obayashi’s House—a cult classic that has to be seen to be believed!
